Oskaloosa Boys Track Team Shines at Little Hawkeye Conference Meet Despite Weather Challenges
PELLA, IA — Despite an abrupt halt due to inclement weather, the Oskaloosa Boys Track and Field team displayed determination at the Little Hawkeye Conference meet held in Pella Christian on April 30, 2024. The team’s performance was cut short, but not before they secured five personal records and two season-best marks.
The event, which regularly showcases some of the top competitors from across the conference, was proving to be a ground for standout performances by the young Oskaloosa squad.
Among the notable performances, Nathan McKim excelled in the sprint medley split, and Trace Rupprecht did the same in the shuttle hurdle split. Brock Beerbower threw a personal best in the shot put, while Blake Herny and Ricky Fields excelled in their distance medley and 400m events, respectively.
The team also saw season-best performances from their shuttle hurdle relay team and the distance medley relay team, both contributing to the team’s showing before the meet was called off.
“We are proud of our young men who stayed focused on their goals and kept working toward reaching them,” Coach Sterner added.
The meet was paused mid-way through as the weather took a turn for the worse. The partial results were enough to highlight the strength and potential of the Oskaloosa track team as they gear up for the remainder of the season.
