Smith Lauded by League
Oskaloosa–Laila Smith (Fr., Olympia, Wash., Elementary Education) put up huge numbers last week, and for her efforts she was named Heart of America Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week Monday.
Smith claimed her first career laurel as she paced William Penn during its annual spring break trip.
For the week, the freshman hit .609 (14-for-23) with six doubles and one home run. She tallied four RBIs and scored six times, while also drawing six walks. Over the span of 10 games, Smith had four outings with multiple hits, including going 4-for-4 against Olivet Nazarene last Friday.
Smith currently owns a .324 batting average (24-for-74) with nine doubles, two home runs, nine RBIs, and 13 runs scored. Helped by her seven walks, she has a .378 on-base clip, while also posting a .527 slugging percentage.
