TRURO – North Mahaska made the most of its tune-up wrestling meet before this week’s Super Regional with a fifth place finish at the Rich Gray Wrestling Invitational at Truro I-35. The four-person team scored two titles, a runnerup and a third.
Highway 34 won the meet with 206 points and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont was second with 170. Woodward-Granger finished third with 124 followed by Martensdale-St. Marys at 83 and NM scored 74. Eleven girls’ teams took to the mats in a non-classed meet.
Kaylia Shipman won the 120-pound class while Macie Little sat atop the 125-pound podium. Amara Edwards-Hinton took second at 170 and Kieren Perez was third at 140.
Shipman, a freshman, opened the day with a pin of sophomore Jaidyn Achenbach of Woodward-Granger in 1 minute 27 seconds. She faced freshman Alainah Glanakis and scored a pin in 2:44. In the title bout, Kendra Krause of Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont fell victim in 5:38.
Little began her day with a fall over I-35’s Morgan Dickinson in 1:33. In her semifinal match she took nearly the full time before pinning Treynor’s Adalyn Minahan in 5:43. Zoey Vandevender of Highway 34 was Little’s victim in the championship falling in 4:37.
