Fremont, Neb.–The Statesmen women’s soccer team played even for one half of action, but could not replicate that performance in the second period in a 4-0 season-opening loss to Midland Thursday.

WPU (0-1), which was outshot 18-1, kept the Warriors (1-0) off the board through the first 45 minutes.

Unfortunately, the home squad got going right away in the latter stanza, scoring 25 seconds after intermission. MU went on to add three more goals, while Lilly Cote (So., Sioux City, Iowa, Education) answered with the navy and gold’s lone shot in the 60th minute.

Madeline Danielson (Jr., La Crescent, Minn., Biology) recorded seven saves in the setback.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Ottawa, Kan. Saturday to face Ottawa in non-conference action at 6 p.m.
