Served With Honor ~ United States Military Veteran

Norman Fry, 82, of Oskaloosa, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 17, 2023. Norman Ronald Fry, son of Raymond and Daisy (Smith) Fry, was born September 24, 1940, in Cuba, Iowa.

Growing up, Norman attended country school and later attended Eddyville High School.

Norman enlisted in the United States Army and completed his basic training in Colorado before being stationed in Maryland. While in the military, he completed his education by earning his G.E.D.

Norman was later honorably discharged from the Army and moved back to Iowa.

Norman was united in marriage to Helen Marie Bates on August 10, 1963. Three children were born into this union, Jeffrey, Justin, and Rebecca.

He continued his working career in Des Moines as a neon sign maker. The family later moved to Lincoln, NE, where Norm drove semis and worked as a farmhand. The Fry’s later moved to Watts, OK. In Oklahoma, Norman owned a consignment auction business. Norman and Helen also owned a gas station outside of Watts. He even became Watts’s mayor and served on the volunteer fire department. Norman could do anything he set his mind to, even building the family’s home without the assistance of power tools. He also built an apartment in one of his storage buildings to be near his auction business.

Although Norman loved his work, his true love was his family. Norman helped raise many children over his life, always showing his true nature as a gentle man.

Norman’s family includes his wife, Helen Fry of Oskaloosa, IA; his children: Jeffrey (& Trina Jones) Fry of Chillicothe, IA, Justin (& Mary) Fry of Maquoketa, IA, and Rebecca Fry of Dallas, TX; his grandchildren: Heather (& Chris) James of Perry, IA, Hayle Glasco of TX, and Earl Tice Jr. of Dallas, TX; his great-grandchildren: Skyler, Connor, Devin, and Isabella; his siblings: Sharon Fuller of Des Moines, Gary (& Linda) Fry of Florida, and Dale (& Judy) Fry of Avery, IA; and many nieces and nephews and step-grandchildren.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons: Michael Fry and Devin Fry; and six siblings: Raymond Fry Jr., Barbara Mariscal, Beverly Gentry, Patricia Pidilla, Deloris Kroker, and Dean Fry.

As was Norman’s wish, his body has been cremated, and no services are planned.

Langkamp Funeral Chapel & Crematory has been entrusted with Norman’s arrangements.
