Brenda DeJong
July 25, 1967 – January 19, 2023
Oskaloosa, Iowa | Age 55

Brenda De Jong, 55, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, passed away on January 19th, 2023, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Her family finds comfort in knowing she is now pain-free after recently battling several health issues.
Brenda Lee De Jong (Schneider), daughter of Marvin and Delores Schneider, was born in Oskaloosa on July 25th, 1967.

Brenda was raised in Oskaloosa and was a 1985 graduate of Oskaloosa Senior High School. She furthered her education at Indian Hills Community College, where she studied nursing.

On December 6th, 1985, she married Rustin De Jong. To this union, Elizabeth was born. They later divorced.

Through the years, she worked at several nursing homes in the area as an LPN. Most recently, she was employed at Montezuma Specialty Care.

Everyone who knew Brenda would tell you she loved music, chocolate (or anything sweet), antiquing, jewelry, especially rings. Most of all, she loved her three daughters and her grandbabies. She danced to the beat of her own drum and was well known for being free-spirited, an animal lover – one cat away from being a crazy cat lady, and one of the kindest and most forgiving people you could have the pleasure of knowing.

She was still talking about her summer trip to Florida with her daughters and grandchildren. If Heaven has a beach, we’re sure that’s where she’s spending her time now.

Brenda’s family includes her parents, Marvin and Delores Schneider of Oskaloosa; her daughters: Beth Phelps of Oskaloosa, and her children: Norah and Bennett; Alexis Schneider of Omaha, and her children: Allison and Riley; and Serena Hodgson of Oskaloosa; her sister, Stephanie (& John) Schneider of Oskaloosa; and many nieces, aunts, cousins, and friends.

Brenda was preceded in death by her grandparents.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, January 24th, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. at Langkamp Funeral Chapel & Crematory.
Visitation with the family present will begin at noon on Tuesday.
As per her wishes, Brenda’s body will be cremated following the services, and burial of her ashes will occur at a later date in the Friends Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
Instead of flowers, donations to the family are appreciated to help cover Brenda’s medical expenses, and memorials can be made to the Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter.
