NM Wrestlers Split in Conference Triangular

SULLY – North Mahaska started the South Iowa Cedar League wrestling season winning two of three matches at Sully Thursday. North Mahaska fell to Belle Plaine 48-36 then cruised past Colfax-Mingo 63-12 and Lynnville-Sully 51-24.

The Warhawks added 13 more pins to their season total, garnered nine forfeits, two decisions and a win by injury. Three NM wrestlers won three matches. Austin McMahan at 195 won all three by forfeit.

Wyatt Van Weelden at 170 went 3-0 pinning Belle Plaine’s Jeremy Reineke in 2 minutes 47 seconds. He pinned Isaiah Baucom of Colfax-Mingo in 1:31. His match with Lynnville-Sully’s Reese Dunsbergen went the distance with Van Weelden scoring a 7-5 decision.

First year wrestler Gage Vande Voort won three matches at 295. He received a forfeit, pinned Jeremiah Cross of C-M in 49 seconds and won by opponent injury in 1:08 against Benjamin Squires of LS.

Freshman Ryan Groom kept his record perfect with three pins at 113. He felled Josue Rodriguez of CM in 1:19 and followed up with pins of Hunter Henry (BP) in 57 seconds and Hunter Van Wyk in :49.

Six other wrestlers picked up two wins. They included, 120 pounder Joel DeJong, Hunter Wernli at 138, Gage Reis at 145, Charlie Goemaat at 126, Dylan Meland at 132 and Jakob Clark at 220.
