Anna Rae Van Hemert, 79, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, October 17, 2022, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born September 12, 1943, in Monroe, Iowa, the daughter of Gysbertus “Bert” and Carrie Stouwie Rozenboom.
Anna attended Monroe Schools.
On December 18, 1964, she was united in marriage to Lloyd Eugene Van Hemert in Pella.
Following their marriage, she worked various places including the Dime Store in Michigan, the (old) Continental Overall factory, they owned and operated Maid-Rite in Pella; and a hotel in Oskaloosa.
In addition to her work, she was busy caring for her children, Bobby, Stanley, Douglas, and Renae, and her home while Lloyd was driving semi over the road. Anna’s favorite title of all was GRANDMA and GREAT GRANDMA. She delighted in her years of caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren and making many memories in her home.
Anna enjoyed watching NASCAR, game shows, displaying her collection of “unique” yard ornaments, card club, flowers, and people watching. Most of all she looked forward to spending time with her family.
Anna is survived by her husband of over 57 years, Lloyd Van Hemert of Oskaloosa; her children, Stanley (& Brenda) Van Hemert of Oskaloosa, Douglas Van Hemert of Fairfield, and Renae (& Digger) Gillam of Oskaloosa; fourteen grandchildren: Nikki (& Phil) Shilling, Katie Rozenboom (& Jaysen), Zachary Rozenboom, Gina Van Hemert, Luke Van Hemert, Nate Gatz, Jon Gatz, Krissy Gatz, Elizabeth (& Alan) Lord, Scotimay Van Hemert, Cheyenne Van Hemert, Christopher Van Hemert, Cierra Gillam, and Dakota Gillam; fourteen great grandchildren: Samara, Cason, Braylee, Naveah, Layla, Alicia, Taylin, Alice, Evelyn, Carly, Emma, Vash, Ryane, and Harper; a sister in law, Darlene Rozenboom; and many nieces and nephews.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents; a son and his wife, Robert “Bobby” and Sheila Rozenboom; a grandson, Ryan Van Hemert; her father and mother in law, Marion and Johanna Van Hemert; two sisters, Jeanetta (& Jerald) Dykstra and Geraldine (& Don) Samson; four brothers: Robert (& Alvada) Rozenboom, Jerry (& Ruby) Rozenboom, Donald Rozenboom, and Virgil Rozenboom; brothers and sisters in law, Gary Lee Van Hemert, John Van Hemert, and Janice Cobler; and her close friend she thought of as a sister, Linda Sue Fisk.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 21, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Reverend Bev Modlin officiating.
Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery at Pella. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Thursday, October 20, 2022, after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Thursday evening to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the MHP Hospice Serenity House.
