Statesmen of the Week: Marquis Knighten and Alyssa Young

Oskaloosa–Football player Marquis Knighten (Grad., Buena Park, Calif., Organizational Leadership) and women’s volleyball player Alyssa Young (Sr., Winter Springs, Fla., Biology) have been named the Statesmen of the Week for the week of October 17-23, presented by Gardner-Collier Jewelry.

Knighten tallied 11 tackles (three solos, eight assists) against Peru State last Saturday. The graduate student managed 4.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage, including three sacks. He also forced a fumble that was recovered by the Statesmen.

Young, who was also chosen as the Heart of America Athletic Conference Attacker and Defender of the Week, was potent on both offense and defense. She posted 52 kills (3.71 per set) on a .396 attack clip, while also finishing with 21 blocks (three solos, 18 assists). Her week was highlighted by a double-double of 18 kills and 10 blocks against Culver-Stockton last Tuesday.
