Nebraska Wesleyan drops Central in road volleyball contest
LINCOLN, NEB.— The road was not kind to the Central College women’s volleyball team in a 25-19, 25-12, 25-17 defeat at Nebraska Wesleyan University Tuesday night.
Central (3-8, 0-2 American Rivers Conference) had a .132 hitting percentage on the night while Nebraska Wesleyan (12-4, 2-0 conference) hit .307. The teams played a tight first set with the lead changing hands four times and being tied nine times.
Elyse Johnson (junior, middle hitter, Kirksville, Mo.) and Natalie Gaszynski (senior, outside hitter, Huntley, Ill.) had seven kills apiece while Gracie Pierson (sophomore, outside hitter, Lake City, Minn.) had six. Gaszynski and Emma Wagler (sophomore, middle hitter, Des Moines, Roosevelt HS) worked together on a pair of block assists.
Amanda Smith (senior, setter, Tipton) had 16 assists and a pair of service aces. Gwen Kahlke (sophomore, defensive specialist, Blandinsville, Ill., West Prairie HS) also had two service aces. Libero Ivett Flores (sophomore, Windsor, Colo.) had eight digs.
The Dutch have three matches this weekend at the Millikin Invitational in Decatur, Illinois, starting with Fontbonne University (Mo.) Friday night at 7 p.m.
