Marvin Cordes, 75 of Guernsey, passed away Sunday morning, July 17, 2022 at his son’s home near Guernsey. Marvin Dean Cordes, the son of Darrel and Carolyn (Strong) Cordes, was born on May 26, 1947 in Grinnell, Iowa.
Marvin graduated from BGM High School with the class 1965.
On May 20, 1967, Marvin was united in marriage to Carmen Kriegel at the Baptist Church in Victor. To this union four children were born, Jeff, Ken, Angela and Kevin.
Marvin enlisted with the United States Army Reserves in 1968 and was Stationed at Fort Huachuca, Arizona for a short time before returning home to farm. Marvin continued to serve his country as an Army Reserve for a few more years before he was honorably discharged in 1974.
Marvin was a lifelong farmer starting at a young age with his father. He farmed many years with his father raising cattle, hogs and had several acres of row crop. Following his father’s retirement, Marvin and his son, Ken, began farming together.
Marvin enjoyed traveling, camping, farming, spending time with his family and above all being a caretaker for his wife, Carmen. Faith and Family was very important to Marvin. He was a 30 plus year member of the Faith Christian Center in Montezuma and a member of Christian Farmers.
Marvin was later united in marriage to Linda Witkay on July 10, 2019.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Linda Witkay of Guernsey; his children, Jeff (& Brenda) Cordes of Pella, Ken (& Heather) Cordes of Guernsey, Angela (& Chris) Hofer of South Dakota and Kevin (& Sandy) Cordes of Sully; 10 grandchildren: Levi, Garrett, Coby, Ashlan, Baze & Zane Cordes, Tristan, Ethan, Aidan & Amelia Hofer; his siblings: Diane Brooks of Arizona, Janice (& Mike) Fink of Omaha and Miriam (& Bill) Bybee of Omaha; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carmen Cordes; a sister, Hope Cordes; and a brother-in-law, Howard Brooks.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at the Faith Christian Center in Montezuma.
Burial with military rites will be held in the Guernsey Cemetery.
Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at the Faith Christian Center with the family present to greet friends and relatives from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Faith Christian Center.
