John David Sims, age 58, of Eddyville, IA, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2022, at the Ottumwa Regional Hospital in Ottumwa. John was born on July 26, 1963, at the hospital in Oskaloosa, IA, to G. Mark and Cecilia Doloris (Kohlenberg) Sims.

John grew up attending school in Albia and graduated from the Albia High School with the Class of 1981. Following high school, John attended Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa where he obtained his Associate of Arts degree in 1983. He then went to Iowa State University in Ames for 3 years before returning to Indian Hills and obtaining an Electronics Technician degree.

While in high school, John worked at Hy-Vee in Albia. He then worked for Motorola in Mt. Pleasant where he tuned and fixed radios for 15 years. Upon Motorola’s closing, John then went to work for Heatilator in Mt. Pleasant.

John enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, and tinkering around on the farm with his beloved dogs, Shorty and Smiley. He also enjoyed playing pool. He was an avid reader and often read about and researched electronics.

John is survived by 2 brothers, Mark Sims of Ottumwa and Arthur (& Amy) Sims of Albia; 2 nephews, Matthew Sims of Eddyville and Christopher Sims of Ottumwa; and 2 great nephews, Dante and Dominick; and 1 great niece, Delilah.

He is preceded in death by his parents, G. Mark and Cecilia; and a sister-in-law, Vicki Sims.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 27, 2022 at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with John’s family present from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. to greet family and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at Greenlawn Cemetery in Bussey, IA, with Pastor Richard Grimes officiating.

A memorial has been established to the Heartland Humane Society.
