Marcia Van Hemert, 53, of Oskaloosa died Monday, June 6, 2022, at the MHP Hospital Emergency Room in Oskaloosa. Marcia was born August 19, 1968, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of Charles LeRoy McVey and Patricia Waller Gardner.
Marcia graduated from Morrilton High School in Morrilton, Arkansas, with the class of 1986. Following graduation, she returned to Oskaloosa.
Marcia worked various places including Pella Corporation, Bonanza, Casey’s and McDonalds.
Marcia enjoyed going to garage sales and bargain hunting around town. She especially enjoyed collecting rooster and chicken figurines. She also enjoyed cooking and doing crafts. Marcia always looked forward to family gatherings, especially seeing her children and grandchildren. She had a servant heart and was always willing to help family and friends.
She is survived by six children: Dustin McVey of Oskaloosa, Jennifer McVey of University Park, Carley Van Hemert of Albia, Caden Van Hemert of Oskaloosa, Cailey Van Hemert of Oskaloosa and Caitlyn Van Hemert of Oskaloosa; two grandchildren, Ganon Reed and Cameron Boland; fiancé, John Oswalt; her mother, Patricia Gardner of Morrilton, Arkansas; her father, Charles (& Janet) McVey of Rose Hill; a sister, Suzanne (& Chris) Hunt of Osage Beach, Missouri; two brothers, Mark (& Sara) McVey of Springfield, Arkansas and Thad (& Tami) McVey of Oskaloosa; ex-husband and close friend, Curtis Van Hemert of Oskaloosa; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Denise Vertz; a brother, Travis West; and grandparents, Ruth McVey, Lester and Evelyn Lough, and Charles and Mildred Waller.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 9, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dave Brown officiating.
As was Marcia’s wish her body will be cremated following the funeral ceremony. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Wednesday after 3 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel Wednesday evening from 5-7 to greet friends and relatives.
