Relay Team Takes Title at Central Methodist Invitational
Fayette, Mo.–The Statesmen women’s track and field team took the title in the fastest relay as William Penn battled at the Central Methodist Invitational Friday and Saturday.
WPU finished 10th out of 18 scoring teams with 32 points, while host Central Methodist was the team champion with 193 points.
The quartet of Danisha Washington (Sr., Peoria, Ill.), Raven Williams (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev.), DeAvae Adderley (Fr., Nassau, Bahamas), and Alexandra Rose (So., Quincy, Ill.) paced the Statesmen to the 4×100-meter relay event crown in a time of 49.85 seconds.
Williams, who was fifth in 26.10 seconds, and Adderley, who was eighth in 26.38 seconds, both scored in the 200-meter dash.
Rose was a top-half finisher in the 100-meter dash (15th, 13.21), while Tabitha Rogers (Fr., Venice, Calif.) was twice in the top half as she was 17th in the 100 in 13.29 and 19th in the 200 in 27.88.
The trio of Katherine Hunter (Sr., Bloomfield, Iowa), Abigaille Batu-Tiako (So., Plattsburgh, N.Y.), and Salima Omari (So., Iowa City, Iowa) all scored fifth-place points at the Invitational. Hunter did so in the 400-meter hurdles (1:08.45), while Batu-Tiako accomplished the feat in the long jump (16-11.25) as did Omari in the shot put (37-1). Omari was 17th in the discus as well with a toss of 101-7.
Deriana Bryant (Jr., Woodlynne, N.J.) was not only busy, but also successful as she ended up in the top half in all three of her competitions. The junior was 13th in the discus (105-6), 14th in the hammer (115-1), and 17th in the shot put (33-0.25).
Phoebe Burt (Fr., Coralville, Iowa) tallied a top-10 showing in the discus as well, placing 10th at 110-3.
“It was a really good day with a lot of PRs in numerous events,” Head Coach Allen Friesen said. “The coaches have done a great job of getting the team prepared each week and progressing with better times and distances each week.”
Next Up: William Penn travels to Dubuque next Saturday to compete in the Dubuque Open.
