Oskaloosa Boys Bowling Just Short Of Conference Champion
by Tony Witt
The Oskaloosa Boys and Girls bowling teams were competing at the the Varsity Conference Tournament on Thursday February the 10th at Newton.
The Girls finished in 4th place overall in the team competition. They were led by Kaylee Haugen in the singles competition who finished in 10th place overall with games of 125, 165, and a 166 for a 456 series. Autumn DeRonde finished in 14th place and Kyrsten DeWees finished in 17th place. There were 48 girls that were competing in the singles competition.
The Oskaloosa boys finished in 2nd place overall for the team conference competition and we’re led by the conference singles champion Trey VanWyk. He bowled games of 214, 236, 236 to win the singles competition. Trey battled through some nerves and some bad shots in the first five frames of the first game but finished the last half of the game string and that continued into the last two games. I am very excited for him for his conference singles championship. Zach Fee also bowled well and finished in 5th place overall with games of 181, 222, and 182 for a 585 series. Jarrett Czerwinski finished in 19th place with a 512 series.
The boys were disappointed with finishing in 2nd place for the team competition. The goal was to be the team conference champion but they fell a little short of that but kept there heads up and had a strong showing in the singles competition.
