Gerrit Roozeboom, age 90 years, 3 months, and 22 days, died Monday, January 31, 2022, at the Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Gerrit Roozeboom, the son of Gysbert and Johanna (Hol) Roozeboom, was born on Friday, October 9, 1931, in Leighton.
Gerrit graduated from Pella Christian High School in 1949.
On October 23, 1952, Gerrit was united in marriage to Matilda “Sis” Nikkel at the Sully Christian Reformed Church. To this union four sons were born: Dale, Mike, Curt, and Karl.
From April of 1953 to April of 1955, he served as a Corporal in the United States Army stationed in both Camp Polk, Louisiana, and Manhattan, Kansas.
Gerrit farmed for many years, and also served as a custodian at both the Oskaloosa Christian Grade School and First Christian Reformed Church. He worked maintenance at William Penn University after farming, and before retiring. He was a Deacon and an Elder of the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa, as well as serving as a Cadet Counselor.
His family includes his four sons:

Granddaughter: Kandis (& Matt) Sherlock
Great Grandchildren: Jack and Presley
Son: Curt and Cathy (Chamra) Roozeboom of New Sharon, Iowa
Granddaughter: Jackie (& Don) Yarborough
Great Grandchildren: Tripp, Henry, Grace

Of his original family, Gerrit leaves a sister-in-law, Pat (Henry) Roozeboom.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Matilda; parents Gysbert and Johanna; brothers: Arie, Henry, John, Gilbert and Henry – His first brother Henry died young from polio; and a sister, Evadena.
Visitation will begin Wednesday, February 2, 2022, from 12 noon until 8:00 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 6-8 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
