Lillian Van Arkel, 96, of Oskaloosa, passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at Northern Mahaska Nursing and Rehab Center.
Lillian M. Van Arkel was born March 29, 1925, at the rural Lacey home of her parents, Garret and Maggie (Klein) Van Ommen.

Lillian was an 8th grade graduate of a country school and then remained at home to help her parents on the family farm.

February 13, 1943, Lillian married Ralph Van Arkel shortly before he left for the military.

Lillian and Ralph made their home in Oskaloosa, where she was a homemaker. Lillian was a member of the Central Reformed Church, where she was active in the women’s guild. She enjoyed embroidery work.

Lillian’s family includes her daughter, Donna (Ron) Ruggles of Oskaloosa; two granddaughters: Samantha Nelson of Chicago, IL and Scarlett (Jonathan) Overturf of Oskaloosa; a grandson, Dr. Brad Randleman of Atlanta, GA; four great-grandchildren: Taylor, Casey and Mia Randleman and Marshall Overturf.

In addition to her parents and her husband on July 7, 1996, Lillian was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Hayman, on July 28, 2012; seven brothers: Ben, Dick, Walter, Gary, Tunis, Henry, and John Van Ommen; seven sisters: Maggie Van Roekel, Nellie Ver Beek, Irene Van Mersbergen, Elizabeth Van Ommen, Henrietta Swank, Pearl Kitzman, and Dora Lamers.

Graveside Funeral Services for Lillian will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, December 23, 2021, at Forest Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 9 -10:45 a.m., Thursday, at which time a procession will leave for the cemetery.
