Zachary Jennings, 60, of Oskaloosa died Thursday, December 9, 2021, at the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born Thursday, November 30, 1961, in Middletown, New York the son of James and Gertrude Jennings.
Zachary was united in marriage to Pamela Schoonover in New Jersey in 1979. To this union four children were born, Richard, Kristi, Adam, and Daniel. In 1998 the couple divorced but remained good friends.
In 1990 they moved to Iowa, and he drove a semi for Home Oil. For the remainder of his career, he worked in industrial maintenance. He started out working on vending machines for Coca-Cola, and later worked on industrial machines at Cargill, Pella Corporation, and J.B.S. Currently he was working in assembly at Ring-O-Matic in Pella.
On June 26, 1999, Zachary was united in marriage to Melody Davis in Ottumwa, Iowa.
Zachary enjoyed riding his Victory Motorcycle all over the country, classic cars, and collecting guns and primitive weapons. He had a great sense of adventure that fueled his desire to skydive twice. He also enjoyed traveling and camping. He loved everything John Wayne and had visited his birthplace in Winterset. Above all he loved spending time with his family and always looked forward to family gatherings.
Zachary is survived by his wife, Melody; his children: Richard (Rosa) Jennings of Newton; Kristi (John) Hendrickson of Oskaloosa, Adam Jennings of Oskaloosa, and Daniel (Alyssa) Jennings of Arizona; six grandchildren; one great grandson and one on the way; two stepsons: Jeremy (Jenny) Sanford of Ottumwa and Jamie Sanford of Ottumwa; a brother, James Jennings of New York; two sisters: Phyllis Linares of New York and Deloris Jennings of Ottumwa; one half-sister: Beth (Terry) Regan of New York, two half-brothers: Russell (Addy) Jennings of New York and David (Jessica) Jennings of New York; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepmother, Sheila Jennings; one brother: Glenn Jennings; and a son-in-law, Rex Hendrickson.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 18, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Jeff Keady officiating.
Burial will take place in the Shaul Cemetery in Ottumwa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
The family will be present from 9:00 until service time at 10:00 Saturday morning to greet relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
