Rebecca “Becky” Van Gorp, 47, of Pella died Thursday, December 9, 2021, at Hospice of Pella Comfort House. She was born August 8, 1974, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of Daniels and Shirley (Van Rossum) Reynolds.
Becky graduated from Pella High School with the class of 1993.
On December 4, 1993, she was united in marriage to Todd Van Gorp in Oskaloosa.
Early on Becky worked at Wal-Mart and then for a Daycare Center in Pella. Upon the birth of her children, she stayed home to care for them until they were in school full-time. She then went to work at the Pella Hospital and Pella Community Schools in food service. Last she owned and operated a daycare out of her home.
As her children were completing high school and looking at furthering their educations, she became interested in furthering her education too. On a college visit to Indian Hills, she and her daughter Hannah signed up for classes together. She completed her Associate Degree in Computer Software Development in 2017.
She was an active member of the Pella Church of the Nazarene where she enjoyed many activities especially women’s bible study. She was an avid crocheter. She enjoyed watching cooking shows, and then letting her family try the finished product. She also enjoyed watching the wildlife out her back window. She delighted in being a grandma and took every opportunity to spoil her grandson, Timothy. She cherished her relationships with her family and friends.
Her family includes her husband of 28 years, Todd Van Gorp of Pella; five children: Hannah (Nathan) Champlin of Pella, Christopher (fiancée Heather Heistand) Van Gorp of Pella, Isaac Van Gorp of Pella, Zerita Van Gorp of Pella, and Leta Van Gorp of Pella; a grandson, Timothy Champlin; her aunt, Zerita Reynolds of Ankeny; her uncle, Larry Van Rossum of Oskaloosa; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation with the family present will be at the Pella Church of the Nazarene on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
At 1 p.m. a procession will form at the church and proceed to Evergreen Cemetery near Leighton for a graveside service with Pastor Greg Neer officiating. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
