Virgil Landers, 73 of New Sharon, passed away Wednesday evening, November 3, 2021 at UnityPoint Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Virgil Dale Landers, the son of Dale and Lois (Todd) Landers, was born on December 18, 1947 in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Virgil graduated from North Mahaska High School with the class of 1966. Following high school, Virgil held a few different jobs and drove truck.

On April 29, 1989, Virgil was united in marriage to Linda Van Kooten.

This same year, Virgil and Linda purchased his grandfather’s farm near Union Mills. Virgil farmed with Linda’s brothers and also worked for Vermeer Corporation, retiring in 2015.

Virgil had a passion for farming and riding his motorcycles. He was an avid gun collector and enjoyed hunting, camping, searching for deer sheds, and above all, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Virgil was a member of Union Mills Christian Church.

His memory will be honored by his wife, Linda Landers of New Sharon; his children: Sharon Hart of Oskaloosa, Rusty (Katie Murphy) Landers of Oskaloosa, Melissa (Greg) Schooley of Iowa City, Marlo (Stefanie) Van Wyk of Lynnville and Marty (Daminika Vander Weerdt) Van Wyk of Lynnville; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Judy Allard, Linda Jackson and Dixie Roy; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; a great-granddaughter, Raelynn Hart; and a brother, Roger Landers.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Monday, November 8, 2021 at Union Mills Christian Church.
Burial will be held in the Union Mills Cemetery at Union Mills.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, November 7, 2021 at Holland-Coble Funeral Home in New Sharon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Union Mills Christian Church.

Holland-Coble Funeral Home of New Sharon is in charge of arrangements.
