Rebecca (Becky) Jane Wheeler was born on November 3,1943 in Mitchell, Indiana to Vera and Claude Wheeler. She died on October 24,2021 at the age of 77.

Becky attended Mitchell High school and after graduating in 1961 enrolled at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. She received her BA degree there in 1965 and began her teaching career in Estherville, Iowa the next year. After teaching at Estherville for many years she moved to Des Moines and taught High School Spanish at Carlisle, Iowa. She retired from teaching in 2008.

Her love of animals and nature led her to visit many National Parks and wildlife preserves. Whether it was watching geese on the Missouri flyway, Sand Hill Cranes on the Platte River or grizzly bears at Yellowstone National Park; Becky would plan trips with her mother or friends and head out.

And as much as she enjoyed adventures, she enjoyed her cats even more. Becky always had a pet cat and is survived by an eight-year-old rescue cat, named George.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an older brother, Stephen.

No formal services are planned and per Becky’s wishes, her body has been cremated. She requested that her ashes be taken to Yellowstone.
A small group of friends will reminisce about the peaks and valleys of her life at a future date.

Her final arrangements have been entrusted to Langkamp Funeral Chapel & Crematory.
