Indians Over Cardinals In Conference Play
by Jennifer Comfort
The Oskaloosa Volleyball team hosted Newton in a 9/JV/Varsity match last night. The Indians were victorious in the Varsity match, winning 25-14, 25-8, 25-16, and in the JV match, winning 25-14, 25-19. After winning the first set, the Freshmen team lost the match 25-12, 19-25, 6-15. It was a good night to have all our teams in action, at home, with a crowd here to support these hard-working athletes.
Tough serving was a big difference in the Varsity match. When we can score 15 points alone off of aces, we set ourselves up for a good match. With only 7 errors, we were smart and aggressive, which is important as we play high-level teams. On the other side of the serve-pass battle, I thought we passed well and sided-out quickly (65%). Statistically, it was one of our best pass-rating matches (2.34), and that was proven by our ability to be in-system and feed all of our hitters quality sets. We still have work to do on small things that have a big impact on the game. We will continue to drill those in practice and make them happen in a match. Overall, it was a fun night to win at home!
