Deucore, McKay Earn All-state honors

A pair of North Mahaska softball players earned all-state nods in Class 1A by the Iowa Girls’ Coaches Association. The honors were released last week.

Deucore, who was a solid player at shortstop with five errors in 29 games with 35 putouts for the Warhawks. The junior earned a third team nod. She was a first-team all-South Iowa Cedar League selection as well. She was second on the team in batting average at .451. She led the team in homeruns with seven. She hit a triple and 18 doubles to drive in 25 RBIs.

McKay, the team’s lone senior, received honorable mention. McKay spent most of the season as the star in the pitching circle. She set a school single season records for strikeouts with 174 with 13 wins and an earned run average of 2.46. From the plate she batted .344 amassing four homeruns, two triples, wo doubles and drove in 16 runs.
