Mickey Thomas Sinclair, age 78 of Albia, IA, passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia surrounded by his loved ones. Mickey was born on June 19, 1942, to Malcom “Mike” and Lois Leota (Phipps) Sinclair in Moline, IL.
Mickey grew up attending school and graduated from the Albia High School. Mickey then went to Indian Hills Community College for 2 years before studying engineering at Iowa State University.
On August 25, 1963, he was united in marriage to Linda Christensen at the EUB Church in Albia. To this union, 3 children were born, Lynn, Cynthia, and Michael.
Mickey worked at John Morrell in Ottumwa. He later went to work at John Deere where he was a punch press operator before working in the office in drafting and lastly working in decision writing before his retirement in 2000.
Mickey was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, the American Legion, and the Masons Astro Lodge 505 of Albia. He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, gardening and playing golf. In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling, coaching softball and umpiring and in high school, playing Chess. He enjoyed playing cards and cribbage and attended the cribbage tournaments at the Iowa State Fair. Mickey also enjoyed collecting coins. His true joy in life was spending time with his family and friends. He always visited with others and never knew a stranger.
Mickey is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda Sinclair; 3 children: Lynn Heriford, Cynthia (& Kenny) Kirk, and Michael (& Jen) Sinclair; 5 grandchildren: Rachell, Ariel, Tyler, Aaron, and Kelsey; and 4 great grandchildren.
Mickey was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Lois; a sister, Gwendolyn Marie Sinclair; and his grandparents, Earl and Nellie Sinclair.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 23, 2021, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Mickey’s family present from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. to greet family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 24, 2021, at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia, with Pastor Roger Henry officiating.
Burial will follow services at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lovilia, IA.
A memorial has been established to the American Legion in Albia.
