Jerelyn Lee Merrill, age 65, of Albia, IA, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2021, at her home. Jerelyn was born on April 23, 1956, to Herbert and Gail (Clendenon) Parker in Oskaloosa, IA.
Jerelyn grew up and attended school at Twin Cedars, graduating with the Class of 1974.
Jerelyn married Larry Merrill Jr. on August 8, 2008, on the family farm.
Jerelyn was an HR Safety Director at Winger Contracting until her retirement, where her co-workers were her second family. While in high school, she was a member of the rifle club. She enjoyed gardening and loved animals, especially horses. She enjoyed all sports and was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. She was a very loving and generous person with a big heart. Family was everything to Jerelyn and she cherished the time spent with them, especially her children and grandchildren.
Jerelyn is survived by her husband, Larry Merrill Jr. of Albia; 5 children: Chad (Shelly) Spaur of Oskaloosa, IA, Sarah (& Bubba) Finger of Slinger, WI, Quinn (& Alex) Kinman of Nevada, IA, Larry Merrill III of Lebanon, KY, and Megan Merrill of Albia; 11 grandchildren: Kyrsten, Kiera, Darian, Gavin, Taelyn, Sydney, Endellion, Preston, Zachary, Carter, and Scarlett; 2 great grandchildren, Braelynn and Raelee; and 2 sisters, Sheryl Carter of Sully, IA and Sherry (& Robert) Carter of Steamboat Springs, CO. Jerelyn is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Gail Parker; and a brother-in-law, Loren Carter.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Jerelyn’s family present to greet family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Pastor Shannon Munday officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the ALS Association.
