Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Smith, age 76 of Albia, passed away Monday, April 19, 2021, at Homestead of Albia. Betty was born on November 6, 1944, to Lindley and Doris (Griffiths) Bissig in Fairfield, IA.

Betty grew up and attended school, graduating from Mt Pleasant High School with the class of 1963. Betty attended Northeast Missouri State in Kirksville, MO.

On July 6, 1964, she married Robert Eugene Smith. To this union, three daughters were born, Terri, Lisa and Jodi.

Betty was a homemaker and after she raised her daughters she later worked as a paraprofessional in the Special Educational Department for the Albia Community School District.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia.

Betty enjoyed quilting, reading, singing in the church and community choirs and spending time with her family.

Betty is survived by Robert Eugene Smith; her daughters: Terri (& Dean) Stinn of Magnolia, TX, Lisa (& Cory) Newman of McKinney, TX and Jodi (& Jason) Major of Fort Dodge, IA. She is also survived by her six grandchildren: Caspar and Lucy Stinn, Cole and Caleb Newman and Maddy and Brady Major; as well as one brother, Robert (& Linda) Lite of Fairfield Bay, AR.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Lindley Bissig and Doris Stith.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 22nd 2021 at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Betty’s family present from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. to greet family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 23, 2021, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor Roger Henry officiating. Burial will follow services at Oak View Cemetery in Albia.

Memorials have not been established at this time but may be made to the family.
