Mary Alice Wolf
March 13, 1928 – May 09, 2021
Deep River, Iowa | Age 93
Mary Wolf, 93 of Deep River passed away May 9, 2021 at the English Valley Care Center in North English. Mary Alice Strausser Wolf was born to Richard and Hazel Strausser (McMasters) on March 13, 1928 in North English, Iowa. She died on May 9, 2021 at the age of ninety-three.
Mary was raised on the family farm with five siblings – Evelyn (Morse), Elsie (Nelson), Betty (Grier), Shirley (Wade, Olson), and Richard “Clint”.
Mary moved to Deep River as a young bride after meeting the love of her life, Lowell “Bing” Wolf. They married in 1950 and remained in Deep River where they raised two children, Barbara (O’Rourke) and Robert, in the ever-present loving company of his parents, George and Zelda Wolf, the community writ large, and the frequent presence of her parents. They were always involved in making it home with the whole community as family.
Mary worked in many roles in her community. From store clerk to being part of the staff that produced the local paper, The Deep River Record. Her hands were always in motion in a quest to create. Her artistic talents were diverse and ever shared. Her hands were her calling card. Most of those whom she knew have been recipients of her talents and energy. She had a fascination with new ideas and often enlisted her husband into the process.
She enjoyed the out-of-doors and being with others, especially her grandchildren (Taressa O’Rourke Lipsius, Ryan O’Rourke, and Tianna Wolf) and great grandchildren (Richard, Joseph, and William Lipsius and Mason Wolf) with whom she adored. She was passional about dancing with her man. They gracefully swayed and swirled their way through many weekends.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and their families that include Dr. Randy Poole, Daniel Lipsius; and Daryl and Shelby Wolf and their families.
She will be greatly missed by all.
The celebration of Mary’s long and flourishing life will be held, with COVID precautions, at her gravesite at the Goldenrod Cemetery in Deep River on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 1:00 PM.
Family visitation will follow at the Deep River American Legion Hall Building until 2:30 PM.
