Alice McGill, 86, of New Sharon passed away Monday evening, May 3, 2021 at the Northern Mahaska Rehabilitation Center in Oskaloosa. Alice Marguerite McGill, the daughter of Edward and Stella (Koszarek) Send, was born on May 24, 1934 in Suttons Bay, MI.
Alice grew up on the family cherry orchard and graduated from Suttons Bay High School in Suttons Bay, Michigan.
On November 26, 1955, Alice was united in marriage to Thomas McGill at the St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Suttons Bay, Michigan. To this union four children were born, Denise, Timothy, Cynthia and Thomas.
Alice worked a short time at Western Union in Pontiac, Michigan before having children and becoming a homemaker. In 1969, they moved to Grinnell for a short time before moving to New Sharon. Alice was then a seamstress at Pella Products for several years retiring in 1995.
Alice enjoyed crocheting, knitting, NASCAR, watching the Golden Girls and was a huge Iowa Hawkeye football fan having season tickets for many years. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother and absolutely enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She was a faithful member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa and a member of Mother’s Club.
Her legacy will be cherished by her children: Denise (& Randy) Boyd of Rotonda West, Florida, Thomas McGill Jr. of Fargo, North Dakota and Cynthia (& Bruce) Peiffer of Oskaloosa; nine grandchildren: Jennifer Peters, Jodi (& Scott) Barr, Erin DeGoey, Kevin DeGoey, Karen (& Eric) Loebel, Megan Peiffer, Ben Peiffer, Andy Peiffer and Molly Peiffer; 11 great grandchildren: Dylan (& Miranda), Jacob (& Stacia), Alex, Aubrey, Peyton, Braden, Maysen, Moshe’, Brendan, Carter and Jaxon; a great-great grandson, Wyatt; a sister-in-law, Helena Send of Suttons Bay, MI; and many other relatives and friends.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas McGill on September 10, 1997; a son, Dr. Timothy McGill; a grandson, Jeremiah Hicks (twin of Jodi); two brothers, James Send and Edward Send; and her sister, Edna (& Finace) Gilbert.
A private graveside service will be held in the Union Mills Cemetery near Union Mills with Father Troy Richmond officiating.
No visitation is scheduled.
