Jerry Mason, 78 of New Sharon, passed away peacefully Friday morning, April 23, 2021 at the Unity Point Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Jerry Leroy Mason, the son of Norman and Grace (Walker) Mason, was born on June 21, 1942 in Montezuma, Iowa.
Jerry graduated from North Mahaska High School in 1961 and also attended AIB College in Des Moines.
On April 8, 1967, Jerry was united in marriage to Clare Reynolds in Marion, Iowa. To this union three children were born, Robert, Richelle and Richard.
They lived in Barnes City before moving to Grinnell where Jerry worked for Miracle Recreation Equipment. In 1983, Jerry was relocated to Monett, Missouri where they made their home. A couple years later, Jerry began driving truck. He drove for a few companies before driving for CFI. During his time with CFI, he was recognized for being a 2-million-mile driver, being a safe driver and also having the privilege to drive through every state but Hawaii.
In 2002, Jerry and Clare moved back to New Sharon. He retired from trucking in 2008. Jerry enjoyed fishing, camping and golfing and also drove truck for the New Sharon city wide cleanup. He was a member of the New Sharon United Methodist Church.
His memory will be honored by his children: Robert Mason of New Sharon, Richelle Swope of New Sharon, and Richard Mason of New Sharon; five grandchildren: Caelan Swope, Devon Swope, Kairi Mason, Rand Mason and Rowan Mason; his sister, Janet (& David) Pinkerton of New Sharon; and many other relatives and friends.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Grace Mason; and his wife, Clare Mason.
As was his wish, his body has been cremated and no services are planned.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Sharon Fire and Rescue and may be sent to the Holland-Coble Funeral Home, In care of Jerry Mason, P.O. Box 85, New Sharon, Iowa 50207.
