Central’s Dobernecker, Sadler honored
PELLA—Two Central College athletes received American Rivers Conference honors Monday.
Harold Dobernecker (freshman, Nevada) was named the league’s men’s golfer of the week while Skylar Sadler (sophomore, Lisbon) was tabbed as the softball pitcher of the week.
Dobernecker topped a strong field in the Central Shootout Thursday as he fired a collegiate-best par-72 at the challenging Bos Landen Golf Club in Pella. His round was highlighted by a hole-in-one on the 158-yard, par-3 6th hole, his career first. He took medalist honors by two shots in the eight-team tourney.
The Dutch are preparing for the 72-hole American Rivers tournament Thursday-Saturday at the Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City.
Sadler had seen just three innings of varsity action since Feb. 27 before stepping into a relief role in two of Central’s three wins over Loras College over the weekend. Friday she threw 5.0 innings of 2-hit shutout ball in a 6-0 victory. Sunday she entered in the top of the fourth inning with Central trailing 1-0 and again held Loras scoreless, yielding two hits over 4.0 innings as the Dutch rallied for a 2-1 win. She struck out two and didn’t walk a batter in either outing. The two victories were the first of her Central career.
The Dutch are 13-7 overall and 11-5 in the league heading into a 3 p.m. contest at Coe College in Cedar Rapids Tuesday.
