Dean Heishman, 83, of Grinnell and formerly of Deep River, passed away Friday morning, March 5, 2021 at the St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. Dean Clinton Heishman was born on May 11, 1937 to Forrest and Ida Dougherty Heishman at the Grinnell Hospital.

Dean attended and graduated from Deep River High School in 1957. He then went to Kansas City and attended the U.S. Trade School studying mechanics.

Dean was united in marriage to Beverly Piersel on June 7, 1959 and they were the parents of two children, Jeff and Whitney. He was also a member of the National Guard.

Dean was a mechanic at Gilbert Motors in Montezuma and later purchased the business from Buck Gilbert in 1963. He later formed a partnership with Dick Grubb in a trucking business. In 1990, Dean went to work for Hawkeye Paving retiring in 2000.

Dean and Bev moved to Seeland Park in 2013 and enjoyed their friends there. They attended many Grinnell College basketball games.

Dean and Bev loved traveling and took several trips and vacations. Family was a huge part of Dean’s life. His two granddaughters were the joy of his life. He attended many baseball and softball games in Montezuma and watched his grandson-in-law coach. He also enjoyed playing pool with his Seeland Park buddies and enjoyed many social events at Seeland Park.

Dean is survived by his wife, Bev Heishman of Grinnell; his children, Jeff (& Mary) Heishman of Deep River and Whitney Heishman of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin; his two granddaughters, Taryn (& Josh) Anderson of Montezuma and Tiffany Heishman of Ankeny; his four great grandchildren: Ava, Tenley, Knox and Krew of Montezuma; his brother Dale (& Barb) Heishman of Montezuma; and many other friends and relatives.

Dean is preceded in death by his parents, and three half siblings: Jack Heishman, Rebecca Heishman and Ruth Chaplain.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Saturday, March 13, 2021 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 12, beginning at noon with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home.
Burial will be held in the Jackson Township Cemetery at Montezuma.
Memorials may be directed to the Seeland Park Foundation.
