Bruce Johnson, 62, of Beacon, died Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. He was born August 13, 1958, in Oskaloosa, the son of (Delbert) Duane “Runt” and Rosalie “Lee” Vance Johnson.

Bruce attended Oskaloosa High School.

Early on Bruce worked at U.S. Fibers for many years. For the last 30 plus years he has worked at Oskaloosa Engineering. He retired from there due to failing health.

Bruce was an avid fisherman, if the fish were biting, he was not leaving the river until they quit. He also enjoyed hunting. He was a social member of the V.F.W. in Oskaloosa.

His family includes his mother, Lee Woerdeman of Oskaloosa; his siblings: Monte (& Karen) Johnson of Oskaloosa, Steve (& Michele) Johnson of Beacon, Shelley Eskew (& Gary Bowlin) of Phoenix, Arizona, Ron (& Konnie) Johnson and Penny (& Mike) Rawls; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 26, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Chad Lierman officiating.
Burial will be in the Bellefountaine Cemetery near Tracy. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
According to the rules put in place by the Iowa Department of Public Health, proper social distancing and reasonable personal protective equipment is advised for attending a religious public event.
The funeral will be posted to the Bates Funeral Chapel’s YouTube page for those unable to attend.
Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday evening from 6-8. Memorials may be made to Bellefountaine Cemetery Association.
