Selemani Places Fourth at First Tourney in Program History
Des Moines–The Statesmen women’s wrestling team took part in the first tournament of its history as it competed in the Grand View Open Saturday.
Three individuals claimed at least one victory, headlined by Mami Selemani (Fr., Iowa City, Iowa) with four wins at 123 pounds.
Selemani finished the day with a 4-2 record, including two technical falls en route to a fourth-place showing. She lost her first bout, but responded with four consecutive triumphs prior to falling in the third-place matchup.
109-pounder Chalimar Rodriguez (Fr., Keller, Texas, Nursing) was also a multiple winner with a 2-2 mark on the day.
Salima Omari (Fr., Iowa City, Iowa) won once by technical fall at 170 pounds as well.
Next Up: William Penn travels to Fremont, Neb. next Saturday to compete in the Midland Tournament.
