Mahaska Health Offers Flu Clinics
A Mahaska Health Press Releasee
MAHASKA COUNTY — Flu season is here, and Mahaska Health will again offer several public flu shot clinics.
The US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommend that everyone 6 months and older receive a flu vaccine. According to CDC.gov, “Vaccines are especially important for people who are at high risk of serious complications from influenza. Flu vaccines can help reduce flu illness, doctors’ visits, missed work and school, as well as prevent flu-related hospitalizations and deaths.”
Director of Population Health and Quality at Mahaska Health, Denyse Gipple says getting a flu shot is the best way to protect yourself and support your local healthcare system. “The flu vaccine significantly reduces your risk for getting sick or needing to be hospitalized,” she shared. “That is of clear benefit to you but keeping you healthy also helps our local healthcare system run smoothly.”
Gipple says keeping patients as safe and protected as possible from the flu is a top priority. “We want to help our patients stay healthy. Getting the flu vaccine is easy. Having the flu is not.”
Flu shot clinic dates at Mahaska Health are scheduled for Thursday, October 8th, Tuesday, October 13th, Wednesday, October 21st, and Thursday, October 29th from 5-7 PM on the hospital campus. New Sharon Clinic will be hosting flu shot clinics on Monday, October 12th and 19th from 4:30 to 6:30 PM. Clinics will be open to all. The vaccine is covered by most insurances. Cash pay options are also available.
To schedule an appointment to receive your flu shot, please call 641.672.3360. Community members who are unable to come during the times listed above, are encouraged to call and ask about getting a flu shot at their next primary care provider visit.
