NM Falls in Five to SICL Foe

NEW SHARON – Coming off a tough five-set win over Lynnville-Sully Monday, North Mahaska found the going tough when they hosted Colfax-Mingo in a South Iowa Cedar League tilt. The match went the full slate of sets, but C-M came out on top 3-2.

C-M won the opening set 26-24 and NM rallied for a 25-17 victory. C-M answered with a 25-18 win only to see the host Warhawks win 25-20 to force the fifth set. Colfax-Mingo won the closer 15-13.

“It was a really tough night for us all,” said coach Jim Woods. “We have really high expectations of ourselves and to be truthful we were a little exhausted mentally and physically from the five-set battle with Lynnville-Sully the night before. We will bounce back and be stronger than ever I believe. This team has more fight and determination in it than most.”

Madison McKay had another strong stat line leading in kills with 17 and collected five service aces on 17-of-18 serves. She also recorded 11 digs. Drayana DeBoef collected five service aces on 17-of-21.

“Our stats were down from the Lynnville-Sully match, but still we were in every set,” said Woods. “I sincerely hope we get to play them again.”

North Mahaska hosts their invitational Saturday, Sept. 19.
