Three Going for Titles at Indoor Nationals

Oskaloosa– It is time to shine for the three Statesmen who will proudly represent their school at the 2020 NAIA National Indoor Track and Field Championships. The trio will battle for hardware and national titles this weekend in Brookings, S.D.

The Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex will host the multi-day event. Competition begins Thursday but William Penn will not appear until Friday. The event will conclude Saturday, March 7, with the final of most track events and the award ceremonies.

Mofiyinfoluwa Alade (Jr., Hoffman Estates, Ill.) will be the first competitor for WPU as he will participate in the high jump on Friday, with the event starting at 2 p.m. Alade qualified with a mark of 6-7 at the Frigid Bee Invitational in December, good for 30th in the NAIA field. He achieved that mark twice on this season. Tequan Claitt of Indiana Tech topped the qualifying field with a height of 7-3.

Joel Brown (So., Columbus, Ga.) will also compete Friday, attempting to make the cut for Saturday’s 60-meter dash final. He punched his ticket at the Frigid Bee as well, with a time of 6.89 second. That put him 29th in the NAIA as Qawtavis Johnson of Indiana Tech paced the nation with a time of 6.71.

Sage Ehresman (Sr., Sully, Iowa) will go for gold on Saturday in the shot put, which will start at 1 p.m. He has the best national ranking of the three, entering the competition in eighth place with a mark of 53-0.25 at the Frigid Bee. He will have to find a few more feet in his throw as Bryce Vollrath of Olivet Nazarene led the national field by over two feet, with a length of 59-1.5.
