Statesmen Succumb to #1 Grand View

Des Moines—While William Penn was hosting Grand View in women’s basketball, William Penn men’s volleyball was on the road at Grand View on Wednesday night.

The Statesmen (3-14, 1-9 Heart) couldn’t keep up with the firepower of the nation’s best in #1 Grand View (19-1, 9-0 Heart) in straight sets by the scores of 25-16, 25-16, and 25-14.

William Penn was outhit .372 to -0.54 in the setback.

Four Statesmen logged at least a pair of kills led by CJ Rettig (Fr., Sierra Madre, Calif., Wellness and Recreation) with three while Carlos Garcia (Fr., Laredo, Texas, Biology), Conor Muff (So., Kenosha, Wis., Business Management), and Anochs Georges (Fr., Orlando, Fla., Undecided) all had two.

Matt Helmick (Fr., Fullerton, Calif., Business Management) finished with seven assists as he ran the offense.

Defensively, Pedro Maciel (Fr., Belo Horizante, Bra., Psychology) collected seven digs while Garcia had five, and Rettig added four and a solo block.

Next Up: The Statesmen will travel to St. Louis, Missouri, to take on St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Saturday.
