Indians Softball Gets Past DC-G At Home

by Jamie Brockman

The Oskaloosa softball team picked up another win Thursday night beating DC-G 2-1.

The win marks their fourth in a row and six of their last seven.

Oskaloosa scored a run in the first inning with two outs when Ava Vandewall reached base on a DC-G error and was then driven in on a single by Abby Braundmeier. Dallas Center-Grimes tied the game with a run in the top of the fifth inning when Kylie Merical singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch, then scored on an RBI single from Elle Nelson.

The game remained tied 1-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh but Oskaloosa took full advantage of playing at home to get the winning run across the plate. Kaylee Johnson started with a single, and Meghan Moorman reached base on an error. Ashley Kindley then laid down a sacrifice bunt advancing Johnson to third and Maleah Walker, who was running for Moorman to second. With one out, Vandewall received an intentional walk loading the bases. After Braundmeier flew out to right field, Sophia Dykstra stepped up and ripped a walk-off single to score Johnson giving the Indians the 2-1 win.

Hayle Hacker got the win pitching seven innings, allowing one run on eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

The win improves Oskaloosa to 15-9 overall and 6-7 in LHC play.

The Indians are off until Monday when they host a doubleheader against Newton starting at 5:30 pm
