#9 DCG too much for Oskaloosa Girls 74-34
by Doug DeKock
The Oskaloosa girls’ basketball team entered Friday night’s contest against Dallas Center-Grimes, coming off their best game of the year against Grinnell on Tuesday night. DCG is yet another ranked opponent, and proved they were worthy of their #9 ranking. DCG came into the game only averaging 47 points, but was able to score 74 points, behind a tenacious, half-court defense, led by spark plug Jenna Borchers, who came into the game with an amazing 57 steals on the year. She would pick the Indians clean numerous times, on the way to scoring 23 points. DCG was the best half-court defensive team Oskaloosa had faced all year. Alexis Westercamp was still able to score in double figures, with 12 points, and she also pulled down a team high of six rebounds. Shallandra Shilling had one of her best shooting nights of the year, scoring eight points, and pulling down four rebounds. Marleigh Denberger added six points and three rebounds, while Lindsey Holmberg and Katelyn Smith each scored three points. Leah VanMaanen chipped in two points, to round out the scoring for Oskaloosa.
Oskaloosa has played two decent ball games back to back, and should have a chance to win on Tuesday night when they visit Newton. The Indians fall to 2-14 overall, and 0-10 in the conference, while DCG improves to 11-4 overall, and 8-2 in the conference.
