Mary F. Hackert, 86, of Richland died Monday, February 18, 2013 at the Maplewood Manor in Keota.

Mary was born Sunday, January 9, 1927 in rural Reasnor, Iowa, the daughter of Jesse and Sophia DeJong Carpenter. She attended the Richland Independent Country School near Reasnor. Early on Mary and her sister Cleora traveled all over the state of Iowa playing accordion and also played it on WHO as well. On December 19, 1946, Mary was united in marriage to Ralph Hackert near Reasnor. Ralph and Mary moved to the family farm north of Richland in 1957. Mary worked on the farm with Ralph and was an important part of the family business. She also worked as a bookkeeper in various ag businesses. Mary loved to play organ and she and Ralph provided music for many occasions. She also played piano and organ in the Richland United Methodist Church for many years. She was a member of the Richland United Methodist Church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, bird watching, flowers, gardening and working with the family.

She is survived by her husband of over 66 years: Ralph Hackert of Richland; 3 daughters: Bonnie (& Dale) Ingersoll of Richland, Sharon (& Mark) Traner of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Rhonda (& Mike) Noel of Richland; a son: Craig (& Darcy) Hackert of Richland; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister: Cleora Van Waardhuizen.

Visitation will begin Wednesday after 5 P.M. at the Richland United Methodist Church and the family will be present at the church from 5 – 7 P.M. Wednesday to greet friends and relatives.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at the Richland United Methodist Church in Richland, Iowa with Pastor Carl Benge officiating.
Burial will be at a later date.
As was her wish her body has been cremated.

Memorials may be made to the Richland United Methodist Church or Richland Pink Party for a Cure.
