Those of you who knew Dan Milam were blessed by a man of faith and conviction. I was blessed to have known such a man this side of eternity. Dan was a great friend to me and a fellow comrade in the fight for the freedoms that we are losing as a state and nation. There were many conversations that we had where Dan talked about the need to secure the rights that were given to us by our Creator as outlined in the Declaration of Independence; life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
You see, we have been given these freedoms that our government has secured by the guidance of our forefathers. Dan was a valiant warrior on issues that pertained to first of all, life. We visited many times about the need for life to be protected. We agreed that all were endowed by God with a life that was purposed from the foundation of the world. There is no stage at which it is morally justifiable to interfere with that which God has a plan for.

Secondly, Dan shared the vision of one who sought to restore liberties that he enjoyed. Those same liberties that our children and grandchildren will go without unless we lay hold of that which our forefathers secured for us. We understood that the false presupposition of liberty was not a license to do whatever we wanted to do. We shared the same understanding; liberty allows us to do what is morally right and keeps us from the consequences of that which is wrong. With our liberty being eroded away by historic revisionism, Dan was a tireless voice leading the fray for the cause of liberty.

Thirdly, Dan understood and discussed the pursuit of happiness. He wanted his children and grandchildren to have the ability to seek after the American dream. Dan was a great example of this by working hard as a father, husband, and provider. As a provider, Dan sought to leave a better tomorrow for those who he may not have ever met yet in his family, and even those who weren’t part of his family.

As those who left their country to come here hundreds of years ago, many died without seeing the final outcome. It was not only about their prosperity, but also about their posterity. So it was with Dan, he understood the value of leaving a legacy behind while passing on a gift to a new generation. He sought a better city, country, and world. He understood a great wise Scripture from Hebrews the 11th chapter in verses 13 and 16 where the writer says, 13 All these died in faith, without receiving the promises, but having seen them and having welcomed them from a distance, …But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God; for He has prepared a city for them.

Dan was truly a great man who walked and lived the life of a true patriot. I will surely miss him and his voice in the fight for freedom. I today have committed myself to be an active voice and to help to carry out the legacy of Dan and so many who have gone on before him. It would be a disgrace to let his work fade away in vain. May our lives be evident to all of those around that we reflect the values that also were reflected by Dan that were endowed to him by his creator.
