Oskaloosa–There will be a new individual at the helm of the Statesmen volleyball program this fall as Jeremy Wise recently resigned his post.

Wise, who ended his five-year stint at William Penn with a 121-95 (18-21 MCC) record, accepted the same position at Union College in Barbourville, Ky., another NAIA institution.

Wise took over a solid navy and gold squad that had just won a Midwest Collegiate Conference title in 2007 and advanced it one more step. His 2008 team shared the league crown and then claimed the MCC Tournament to earn its first-ever bid to nationals. The Statesmen eventually lost to Black Hills State (S.D.) in the NAIA Opening Round that year.

The four campaigns that followed included plenty of success as well with William Penn posting at least 19 wins each year. This past fall, the navy and gold won 28 matches, the third-most all-time and the most since 1985.

“I would like to thank (Athletics Director) Greg Hafner for giving me the opportunity to coach here at WPU,” Wise said. “It has been my pleasure the last five years to coach the Statesmen volleyball program. It is a great institution with wonderful people and a supportive community. My family and I have greatly enjoyed our time here in Oskaloosa and will miss all our co-workers and friends as we move back east to be closer to our family.”

“This decision was solely a personal one to move our kids closer to their grandparents and extended family,” Wise added. “I would like to thank all the student-athletes I have coached here in my time for their hard work and dedication to taking the program to the next level. The administration has been great in supporting the program and myself, and I hope that I left the program in a better position than when I took over and have it headed for more success in the near future. I wish all our current players and commitments the best of luck next year and will keep track of their progress as I will always be a ‘Statesmen’!”

William Penn has already begun the search for Wise’s replacement.
