Wilma DeBruin, 98, of Oskaloosa died Saturday, August 5, 2023, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born March 3, 1925, in Pella, Iowa, the daughter of John and Gertrude Van Dorp Dahm.
Wilma attended country school.
On March 12, 1947, she was united in marriage to Ralph DeBruin at Leighton, Iowa.
Following their marriage Wilma helped Ralph on the farm in addition to caring for her family and home. Later she took a job as a waitress at the King Lear café in Oskaloosa. In 1978, they retired from farming and moved into Oskaloosa.
Wilma was a longtime member of Central Church in Oskaloosa. She enjoyed cooking and baking and hosting family and friends in her home.
Her family includes her son, Larry DeBruin of Oskaloosa; and a sister in law, Doretha Hasselman of Oskaloosa.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph on August 8, 2012; her parents; a son, Leroy Eugene DeBruin; a brother, Cornie Dahm; and a sister, Tena M. Van Engelenhoven.
Graveside funeral services and burial will be held Thursday, August 10, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. in the Black Oak Cemetery north of Leighton with Reverend Jon Nelson officiating.
For those wishing to attend the graveside service at procession will form at 1:50 p.m. Thursday at the Bates Funeral Chapel.
Open visitation will be Wednesday, August 9, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Bates Funeral Chapel.
