William Penn Notches Two First-Teamers, Two Honorable Mentions

Oskaloosa–Four top-tier Statesmen women’s basketball players were recipients of postseason recognition as the all-Midwest Collegiate Conference women’s basketball teams were announced by the league office Wednesday.
Sarah Martin (Sr., Anthem, Ariz., Physical Education) and Orielle Thomas (Sr., Waynesville, Mo., Physical Education) were selected to the ten-person first team, while Janay Pritchett (So., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Biology) and Katie Golomski (So., Milwaukee, Wis., Psychology) earned two of the MCC’s ten honorable mentions.
Thomas now has three all-MCC laurels, while Golomski becomes a two-time recipient. Martin and Pritchett were honored for the first time. The foursome guided the Statesmen to a 19-10 season (9-3 MCC) which ended in the MCC Tournament Semifinals last weekend.
Thomas led the navy and gold with a double-double of 13.4 points and 12.4 rebounds. The third-year senior also managed 48 assists, 41 steals, and 11 blocks.
A five-time MCC Player of the Week, Thomas was the league’s top rebounder and ranked eighth in scoring. She was also fifth in minutes played (30.1), sixth in field-goal percentage (.474), and seventh in steal average (1.6). Nationally, the senior was third in rebound average.
Earlier this season, Thomas became the 19th player to score 1,000 points at William Penn. She ends her career with 1,040 points and is fifth all-time with 854 rebounds.
Martin also closed out her career by averaging 8.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in addition to 30 steals and three blocks. The senior ranked second in the MCC in assist/turnover ratio (1.5-to-1), third in assist average, and eighth in field-goal percentage (.442).
Her 274 career assists place her seventh all-time in school history.
Pritchett posted double figures this winter (10.7 points per game) in addition to 43 rebounds, 57 assists, and 21 blocks.
The sophomore came on strong in conference play, tallying 13.8 points per league outing (8th). Overall, Pritchett was fourth in the league in free-throw percentage (.784) and ninth in field-goal percentage (.423).
A year after being named MCC Newcomer of the Year, Golomski notched another honorable mention despite being under increased pressure in her sophomore campaign. She averaged 9.6 points and 2.7 assists in addition to 42 assists, 31 steals, and 16 blocks.
One of the top deep threats in the league, she ranked third in the conference in both three-pointers per game (2.2) and three-point percentage (.368).
Morgan Hamner of Grand View was named MCC Player of the Year, while Breland Prochaska of Clarke received Newcomer of the Year laurels. Grand View’s Garey Smith was tabbed as league Coach of the Year by his peers.
