Gulf Shores, Ala.–Three Statesmen athletes fell short of eternal glory as they competed on Day Two of the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships Friday.

Cornelius McCastle (Fr., McKinney, Texas, Industrial Technology) had the best showing for the navy and gold, just missing All-America status in the high jump. The freshman opened the competition by clearing a height of 6-7, but was unable to better that mark. Despite tying for the seventh-best height, since he missed on his first try, McCastle actually tied for 14th.

Sam Taylor (Jr., Eddyville, Iowa, Industrial Technology) gave it a good fight in his final action at William Penn. The junior, who is transferring to Iowa State next year to finish his degree, finished 15th in the 110-meter hurdle preliminaries with a time of 14.99 seconds.

Derek Seddon (Fr., Knoxville, Iowa, Physical Education) unfortunately did not post a mark Friday, fouling on all three of his throws in the discus.

Rosemary Bailey (Jr., Fayetteville, Ark., Communications) will wrap up WPU’s representation on Saturday as she competes in the marathon in the morning.
