Bandy Collects POW Accolade

Oskaloosa–Mason Bandy (Sr., Calgary, Alberta, Biology) did a tremendous job between the pipes to get the William Penn men’s soccer team a pair of wins as he was named Midwest Collegiate Conference Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday.

The senior, who was honored for the fifth time in his career (first in 2014), helped the Statesmen (2-0) to victories over Central Methodist (Mo.) and Concordia (Neb.) to open the 2014 campaign. It is the first time WPU has started 2-0 since 2009.

Bandy posted seven saves with just one goal allowed in the opener and then had five stops in a 101-plus minute shutout against Concordia.

He is currently 2-0 with a 0.47 Goals Against Average and 12 saves. The award is the first of the year for WPU.

Medalist Honor Nets POW Honor for Coertze

Oskaloosa–Demi Coertze (Jr., Johannesburg, South Africa, Digital Communication) opened her junior campaign with a big performance as she was named Midwest Collegiate Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week Tuesday.

Now a three-time honoree (first this year), Coertze shot a five-over 77 to lead the 36-player field at the Madonna Crusader Classic. Her showing guided the Statesmen to the team win with a 317, defeating #12 Bethel (Ind.), #26 Madonna (Mich.), and #27 Olivet Nazarene (Ill.).

The tournament win was the sixth of her career, while the award is the first of the year for WPU.
