William (Bill) Keith Whitten
William (Bill) Keith Whitten, age 69, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at his home in Oskaloosa. He was born on November 16, 1954, in Rantoul, Illinois, the son of William Clyde and Shirley (Miller) Whitten. He attended high school in Tracy, Iowa, and graduated with the class of 1974. Later he earned his master’s in business from William Penn University. On January 6, 1974, he was united in marriage to Candi Brown in Phoenix, Arizona. Years later they divorced. Bill joined the United States Air Force in 1973 and served his country for 20 years before retiring from service in 1994.
After retiring from the military, Bill worked as an over the road truck driver. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed skiing and bowling.
He is survived by his children, Wil (Karen) Whitten of West Des Moines and Krystal (Josh) Valster of Des Moines; his grandchildren, Amanda Eden, Ashley Whitten, Austin Whitten, Awna Valster and Aubree Valster; a great grandchild, Lynn Eden; his father, William Clyde(Gail) Whitten; a sister, Kelsie (Randy) Smith and a brother, Ken. He is also survived by numerous cousins.
Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Whitten, his maternal and paternal grandparents and a grandson in law, Max Eden.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at Edmundson Park in Oskaloosa, Iowa, Kiwanis Shelter E. at 1:00 p.m. with Bill’s family present to greet friends and relatives.
