Tierney Carter competes against top runners at Drake Relays

DES MOINES — Oskaloosa senior Tierney Carter competed Friday at the Drake Relays, taking on some of the fastest 400-meter runners in the state.

Carter raced in a loaded field of 16 athletes and finished 13th with a season-best time of 57.7 seconds.

The Drake Relays brings together many of the top track athletes from across Iowa, making it one of the toughest meets of the season. Carter’s performance showed she belongs among the state’s best.

To put her season into perspective, there are nearly 2,000 Iowa high school girls listed in the 400-meter rankings on Varsity Bound, and Carter currently sits 13th in the state.

The strong showing at Drake gives Carter and the Oskaloosa girls track team momentum as the postseason gets closer.

With only a few weeks remaining before district and state competition, the focus now turns toward preparing for the final stretch of the season.
