1927: A period of dry and unseasonably warm weather brought very pleasant fall weather to most of Iowa from about October 20-28. In general temperatures peaked in western Iowa on the 22nd and 24th and in central and eastern Iowa on the 25th-27th. On the 22nd Little Sioux reported a high of 91 F, one of the latest occurrences on record of such a warm temperature in Iowa. On the 24th Thurman registered a high of 89 F and Des Moines established a daily record for the first of five consecutive days, from the 24th-28th, all five of which remain unmatched more than 80 years later.
