The Mahaska Health Partnership Cancer Care and Infusion Center’s Annual Christmas Basket Auction raised $1,635 for a local charity.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – This year’s proceeds were designated to benefit the Ecumenical Food Cupboard, a volunteer-based local organization providing emergency food distribution and hygiene supplies (including diapers and baby care items) to families and individuals who are referred by area ministries and assistance agencies. Located at 205 South D Street, the Ecumenical Cupboard is operated by Church Women United.

According to Ecumenical Cupboard Manager Shirley Frey, the need for daily necessities has grown dramatically. In 2009, 548 family units were helped. “In October, we helped 1,810 family units. That is more people than we assisted in the whole year in 2010,” Frey said.

Blake said that CCIC received 16 holiday baskets to auction, donated by MHP departments. She said CCIC staff would like to thank everyone who donated baskets and/or placed bids in the auction. “Your generosity is truly appreciated,” Blake said. “We are so blessed to be a part of the MHP family. As a team, we are truly making healthcare personal for our community.”
